ace

yeah this is some good shit man, good tune.
now i dont know if you did it on purpose but the bass doesnt really sound ehm.. bassy. missing low frequencies badly.
feels like you wanted to bring that in later on but it never really happens, sounds like it at the end but then it just stops...
other than that its fckin A, you should make a longer one out of this:D

bryce responds:

the vst i used was supposed to be string harmonic synthr, i think i did a good job, i like the end result, though i REALLY raised the low freq in EQ. it should be pretty bassy.

yep

what you're talking about is becoming autodidact. Music is - for some people - something you can learn to make yourself.
and you're getting there, i can hear that this song is pretty harmonic. the melodies you use are not too simple, especially the bassline is good. i like how you managed to have multiple feels to the track. the use of transitions is also pretty decent, except at 1.30 where you bring the other melody back out of nowhere... yeah no dont do that :P
also, electronic music isnt only about melodies and song structure. its also about how you work with sounds - which im sure you have been doing, but it could be alot better. just play with buttons some more, try some more effects.. you can develop a better sound along the way.
just giving you advice as far as it helps.

myxibrium responds:

Not really autodidactic. That would indicate that I was learning music theory by myself instead of learning it from an instructor. I'm talking about NOT learning music theory, since it's very involved and can get incredibly complicated for even simple songs like this. For a music hobbyist, I think it's completely irrelevant. The most important thing by FAR is developing your ear, which doesn't necessarily have anything to do with theory.

I personally didn't think the transition at 1:30 seemed out of place, but that's just because I had listened to it over and over again. And that same transition repeats two other times in the song (i think).

Thanks for the advice! I'm always open for constructive criticism.

good job on this

fcking strong beat, nice bass.. everything seems perfectly balanced and still punching, so good job on the mastering.
couldnt really enjoy the melodies (personal taste) in the start, but the one you bring in after the breakdown halfway through made up for it :D
piano is also nice.
one more thing.. i don't know how you compose songs these days, but in this song you build things up too fast.
you need to try to drag things out longer, for instance have a longer buildup to dropping the beat. i know its hard to get that done right - its my main problem in making music right now - but its essential.
its all about dynamics in a genre thats made to get people to fuckin move. not that you're doing it all wrong, it just could be better.
just some constructive criticism.. overall i enjoy this.

Psybot responds:

thanks for your criticism, i am having problem with building up the intro and such too fast. i just dont want the litsener to get bored. i will think about this alot more in the future. thanks again ^^

pretty good

making progress is the best thing, just keep going on and try to improve; there's always room for improvement and i think i can hear where that room is, so i'll try to give you some advice.
Some of the sounds could be done better, for instance the bass could be smoother, the clap doesn't sound right to me.
and then another tip; when the song climaxes, all you do before the beat drops back in is having the bassdrum roll faster and faster, and then a little noise effect. which is good but on its own it doesn't create the dynamics you need. maybe letting the lead slide to higher frequencies and then back in, and/or having a sound with the pitch slowly going up.
and after the main lead you should bring the melody from the start back in, would do perfectly.
just trying to give you some tips; other than that, you have a solid sound, nice dreamy feel to it, so keep doing what you're doing.

like the feel to this

i love the title man, it describes the feeling of this track exactly. gotta break it to you, the drop at 1.36 is just weak:P and there at 2.20 you do it again... just use a crash or something (im not talkin a rev because yeah i heard it, you already did that) that should fix it. but other than that, nice tune, complex melodies coming along here and there, which i like.
oyeah 1 more thing, you should turn the bass up badly. barely hearing it with woofers. but thats technical, overall i liked it.

chillin out

like where you're going at. the bassline is blowing my face off right now. could tell you it's a little too dominant and on too low frequencies, and that for instance the snare would do better less dry. but whatever, i like it man. the synth goin over it is nice. relaxed feel to it.

yeah that's the shit right there

wow.. that is some class goa.
you know i'm into this genre and, as you might know if you are aswell, heaps of it are released everyday. and still, something like this is just.. rare.
aah the bassline at 1.15 :D ace.
original, detailed, nice percussion going with the beat, the 3/4 part went in well enough.
you still use reason for this? if so then i think i still have a long way to go, haha.
great work man.

yeah this is pretty good

yeah i gotta agree with the guy before me, i'd call it psy but in a way that i've never heard before. i think that's a good thing, nothing better than a real own sound right.
love the guitar like thing, and the acid i can hear in the background.. nice detail.
one or two thing could be improved tho, for instance you don't really have a good buildup, like when you're letting the beat just come in out of nowhere so that there's no impact at all.
and also the bass sounds understated, maybe turning up the key might help or something?
anyway your sound has potential, you already have a nice and full sound, just learn how to get those dynamics right and i'm sure you'll have some kickass music soon.

yes sir

you're using great sounds but you do have some mastering issues.
Not saying I don't:P mastering is a fuckin' pain from time to time.
it's not that bad though, i mean, i can still hear every sound at any point.

okay i'm going to try to criticize on that right now, might be that if you try my advice you'll come to learn that i'm full of shit:P
mostly the drums sound overcompressed and the main melody (which is nice and freaky haha) would do better more distorted and verby. Probably. At least verby. It just snaps out because it sounds so dry. Less mid tones, maybe.. maybe a bit less volume...
i'm just guessing a bit what could be done to improve it.
I'm kind of a DnB fan, but more in the direction of neurofunk, I prefer sharp basslines going crazy on the filter more than a reese... so if i'd comment on that i'd just say lose the whole thing:P but i guess for this song it works.
Anyway the overall sound to it is brutal, as long as it has that in this style I think it's great. So it is.

But uh, a stainless steel condom? that's gotta be some awful fucking right there.

Afterfall responds:

Thanks for the review! Yeah I had huge problems with the drums, by themselves they sound fantastic, but under everything else they sound over-compressed, squashed and drowned out. I couldn't seem to bring them out without them taking over the whole track. Also, I do agree with you about the melody, but I still wanted it to sound fairly "sharp." But yeah, it is a little dry, I probably should have but some reverb on it.

I like all types of DnB; neurofunk gets me going too! But obviously that style is quite different to this. I have tried making music that is more or less neurofunk, but most of it epic fails.

Oh, and the name wasn't my idea. (Don't ask)
Thanks again for the review! Gona check out your stuff :)
